Tours

Our one hour guided is a hands on tour through the Eromanga Natural History Museum (ENHM) workshop, dinosaur and megafauna laboratories and collection room. You will be immersed in the prehistoric and modern day story of this unique and diverse part of Outback Australia. Our passionate tour guides are locals who have had firsthand experience and training in excavation, prepping and collecting the Eromanga dinosaurs, Eulo megafauna and other natural history collections.

Getting Here

Eromanga is in Australia's South West Queensland, Channel Country and is just a few hours flight and a short drive or an easy two day drive from capital cities.

Eromanga is the largest town in the Cooper Basin. The Cooper Basin, and the overlying Eromanga Basin, host Australia’s largest and most prolific producing onshore oil and gas development. Eromanga is one of the oldest towns in the history of Queensland, gazetted in March 1879. Throughout its long history it has become famous for its boulder opal fields, pioneering pastoral families and properties, gas & oil, the Guinness Record Steve Fossett ‘Spirit of Freedom’ solo balloon flight landing site, and now to add to the list Eromanga is famous for being the home to Australia’s largest dinosaurs.

Road Trips

The Eromanga Natural History Museum (ENHM) is located in South West Queensland, Australia, 2.8kms south of Eromanga on the Mt Margaret Road. Entrance to the museum is a left hand turn off Mt Margaret Road into Dinosaur Drive.

If you are driving north from Thargomindah on the Cooper Development Road, turn right after the grid just before Eromanga, onto Mt Margaret Road.

If you are driving west from Quilpie on the Cooper Development Road turn left at the Eromanga Royal Hotel and then turn left again onto the Mt. Margaret Road before the grid outside of the town.

There are fully sealed roads from all directions to the museum, with 500m of well-formed all weather gravel road on Dinosaur Drive, the museum driveway.

Please check the road reports if you are unsure of road closures and drive to the road/weather conditions, Stay on Track Outback.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if a fossil site is discovered?

After looking at the fossils ensure all fragments are left where they were found in the field as this is crucial to discovering more bones in the same area. Do not disturb site but take a GPS reading and photos. If possible mark the site with a star picket and contact the Eromanga Natural History Museum for a scientific analysis.

Look at the ENHM on-line resources ‘How to recognise dinosaur sites in the Cooper Basin’.
